Bandra Kurla Complex, popularly known as BKC, is a planned business district of financial capital Mumbai, which is located between Kurla and Bandra. In 1977, the MMRDA was appointed as the “Special Planning Authority” for planning and development of this complex. It covers 370 ha. area of once low-lying land on either side of the Mithi River, Vakola Nalla and Mahim Creek.

It is one of the most prominent commercial hub in Mumbai, Maharashtra after Nariman Point and Cuffe Parade. It has aided to decongest the business district in South Mumbai while seeding new areas of planned commercial real estate in the metropolitan region. The development in E-block of BKC is almost complete. MMRDA has prepared the concept plan and urban design guidelines for International Finance and Business Centre (IFBC) in G-Block, BKC, which is now undertaken for development.

The complex was built on marshy land on the north side of Mithi River and is bound by Bandra to the west, Kurla to the east and Dharavi across the river.
Today there are approximately 400,000 (4 Lakh) people working in various offices throughout the BKC.

Currently, BKC also hosts 30 kilometres cycle track and corporate headquarters of MNCs. Several companies operate from BKC. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has inaugurated its start-of-art office “Videsh Bhavan”, on August 2017, which is located at G-Block, BKC, Mumbai to integrate all its offices in Maharashtra into a single building for effective management of its engagement with the State Government of Maharashtra. Four offices of MEA in Mumbai like Passport Office, Office of the Protector of Emigrants, Office of the Regional Director of ICCR, and Branch Secretariat of MEA, will be operating from this building.

BKC also houses many of the foreign consulate offices including US Consulate General, British Deputy High Commission, Australian Consulate-General, Consulate Général de France / Consulate General of France, Consulate General of Sweden, Consulate General of New Zealand, etc. Videsh Bhavan, Ministry of External Affairs.

Many of the Pharma companies are head quartered at BKC like Wockhardt, Abbott Healthcare, Pfizer India, Lupin Ltd & Wyeth Ltd.

Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) houses Schools, Hospitals and City Parks of International standards. Some of the well-known International schools are American School of Bombay (ASB), Dirubhai Ambani International School and Mount Litera School International.

Asian Heart Institute (AHI), India's one of the best Heart Care Hospital, is based out of G-Block, BKC apart from other hospitals like Guru Nanak Hospital.

BKC / Bandra (East) is easily accessible from 45m and 30m wide road in BKC and is also connected on the West by the Western Express Highway (WEH) and on the East by Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR). The area is proposed to be connected to the International Airport with an elevated 30m wide road from the Mumbai University Land and shall be connected to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) through SCLR. The area is also proposed to be connected by Metro Line 2 and 3 both. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has developed a huge MCA Recreation Centre at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) which houses one of the best Indoor Cricket School in the world. This complex also includes a full-fledged cricket ground where Ranji Trophy matches are played.

The MIG Cricket Club at Bandra (East) started way back in 1968 is another sports facility available for all sports loving people with one huge cricket ground.

'MMRDA Grounds’ in BKC host most of the city's Trade Exhibitions, Music Concerts, Award Nights and Religious and Political Rallies. Many international artists like Cinclude Akon, 50 Cent, Beyoncé, Guns N' Roses, INXS, Iron Maiden, Michael Learns to Rock, Pitbull, Roger Waters, Bryan Adams, Scorpions, Mark Knopfler and Shakira has performed in this ground.

The Global Citizen Festival was hosted at the MMRDA Grounds on November 19, 2016, headlined by Coldplay and Demi Lovato. The line-up also included Amir Khan, Jay-Z and A.R. Rahman, among others.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) , is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side, that links Bandra and the western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli. The bridge is a part of the proposed West Island Freeway system that links the western suburbs to Nariman Point in Mumbai's main business district.

BKC is also becoming a happening hub of Mumbai. Post office hours there are many places to chill and enjoy the night life of Mumbai. Some of the well know joints are Yauatcha, Butterfly High, BKC Drive, Hitchki, Bayroute, Craftbar, CinCin, True Tramm Trunk, The Bar Stock Exchange, Capital Social, The Good Wife,to name a few. If you are crazy about sea food, then you can find the authentic sea food joints like Sadichha and Highway Gomantak in Bandra East. There are also quite a few coffee shops including Starbucks and Coffee Café Day (CCD) around this place.
